Announcements:
  • Joke: A middle-aged woman has a heart attack and is taken to the hospital. While on the operating table she has a near death experience. During that experience she sees God and asks if this is it. God says, "No," and explains that she has another thirty years to live. Upon her recovery she decides to just stay in the hospital and have a face lift, liposuction, breast augmentation, tummy tuck, etc. She even has someone come in and changer her hair color. She figures since she's got another thirty years she might as well make the most of it. She walks out of the hospital after the last operation and is killed by an ambulance speeding by. She arrives in front of God and complains, "I thought you said I had another thirty years." God replies, "I didn't recognize you."

Speaker:  Kimm Harris from the UI John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center - The Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders

Kimm, through the Center, works with international businesses, international visitors and does business consulting. As such, the University is one of the sites for the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders. The program hosts 25 young leaders from Africa for six weeks. The young African leaders participate in volunteer opportunities, go to local businesses, and take part in cultural activities.

The program is looking for mentors for these young leaders. They will have initial presentations on June 26th, final presentations on July 11th, and visit Cedar Rapids on July 24th. Mentors may participate in one or all of these sessions. Additionally, mentors are needed for one-on-one sessions.

The UI John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center also provides additional services. It provides business consulting, where undergrad students work with local businesses on marketing, strategy and research. International business consulting involves UI students working online with the Mandela Fellows on a semester-long course. And venture school is a 6 week program in the State of Iowa that provides intensive entrepreneurship training.

If you have any questions, please contact Kimm for more information at kimm-harris@uiowa.edu.

THE FOUR WAY TEST

Is it the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
