Speaker: Our speaker was Jeff Quint, who gave us a tour of Cedar Ridge. Cedar Ridge was founded in 2005, following a long family tradition of distillers, including Jeff's grandfather who made brandy. Cedar Ridge is the first licensed distillery in Iowa since Prohibition. Cedar Ridge launched Iowa's first bourbon whiskey in 2010.
Later this summer, Cedar Ridge will be certifying a new, much larger still. Jeff shared a number of interesting facts about what separates scotch whiskey from bourbon, about the steps of the distilling process, and about the casks that the liquor is stored in. Unfortunately, I found it difficult to take notes while touring, but I did take a couple of photos:
