Metro North Rotary Notes:
Thursday, November 15, 2018

Prayer & Pledge: Ash Wagel

Guests & Visitors:  Dr. Jeannie Liu, Speaker

Announcements:
  • Joke of the day: A man buys a parrot, only to have it constantly insult him.  He tries everything to make the parrot stop, but nothing works.  Frustrated, the man puts the parrot in the freezer.  After a few minutes the insults stop.  The man thinks he might have killed the parrot, so he opens the freezer and takes the parrot out.  The parrot is shivering.  It stammers, "S-s-sorry for being r-r-rude.  Please f-f-forgive me."  Then after a moment, the parrot softly asks, "W-w-what exactly d-d-did the turkey do?"

Speaker:  Dr. Jeanette Liu

Dr. Liu is a board certified Neurosurgeon with extensive experience and expertise in diagnosing and treating nervous system disorders, including brain and spinal cord as well as peripheral nerve conditions.

She received her undergraduate degree in Biology at Brown University and medical degree from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Liu completed her residency in Neurosurgery at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. She served as an active duty neurosurgeon in the United States Air Force with the rank of Major and also as the former Chief of Neurosurgery at Travis Air Force Base. There was a period during 2008 to 2009 when Dr. Liu was the only American neurosurgeon on the ground at Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan.

Dr. Liu is an active member of Rotary International. She enjoys long distance running, traveling, and spending time with her Maltese dog, Picasso.

Dr. Liu gave us a unique perspective on being an active duty military medical member.  Some of the more interesting highlights were her emphasis on being a member of the military as a first generation US citizen, weapons training and the young age of patients she helped.

THE FOUR WAY TEST

Is it the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
