Announcements:
  • Boys & Girls Club AIM - March 13 at 4:00PM-4:45PM. You should have received an email to sign up to volunteer at the B&G Club. AIM is a chance for you to help an elementary child during BGCCR's Power Hour program. Power Hour is BGCCR's primary education program. Our most recent AIM activity was helping the kids create and write valentines cards for their parents/teachers/grandparents. Other activities have included bingo math, word searches, reading, educational worksheets, etc. We are looking for 6-8 volunteers to come to the Boys & Girls Club's South Unit at First Congregational Church the second Wednesday of each month.  To sign up go here.

  • Our annual fundraising event Lager ‘Lympics is right around the corner on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at NewBo City Market from 11:30 am -3:30pm. As you know the money we raise at this event supports all the great projects we do to support disadvantaged children in our community and internationally. We need your help to secure sponsorships for the event. The sponsorship opportunities and last year’s list of sponsors were emailed out so that everyone can help to promote our event. Linn County Public Health (LCPH) provides many unique services to improve the health of Linn County residents.  The Linn County Public Health Department is supported by five divisions that provide unique services to Linn County residents.
 
Administration & Finance
Manages LCPH's finances and administrative needs
Office of Emergency Preparedness (EP) helps ensure Linn County is prepared for public health disasters.
EP supports community planning and response coalitions and manages the Incident Command System (ICS)
 
Assessment & Health Promotion
Collaborates with coalitions
Conducts data assessments
Coordinates the Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) process
Develops media campaigns
Implement grant projects
Provides health education
 
Clinical Services
Investigates communicable disease outbreaks
Provides immunizations
Conducts testing for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), hepatitis C virus (HCV), and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
Provides travel clinic services for international travelers
Manages the Breast & Cervical Cancer Program, "Iowa Care For Yourself"; the Colorectal Cancer Program, "Iowa Get Screened", and provides diabetes and heart disease screenings.
 
Environmental Services
Air Quality
Inspects and issues permits to industrial and commercial facilities to limit emissions
Monitors outdoor air quality
Provides open burning permits
Environmental Quality
Inspects hotels, pools, restaurants, temporary food vendors, septic systems, wells, tanning facilities, and tattoo facilities
Handles certain nuisance issues and well closures
Healthy Homes
Collaborates with communities to ensure homes are healthy and safe
Implement strategies to create healthier homes, resulting in more stable housing, higher quality of life, and better health
Conducts grant and program management for childhood lead poisoning prevention and asthma programs and indoor air quality
Investigates and assesses hazards in homes such as lead-based paint, radon, and other contaminants that negatively impact health
 
Laboratory Services
Clinical laboratory support & referral: On-site testing for walk-in clinics
Blood lead testing
Water testing: public and private wells, pools and spas, and surface waters
Air quality monitoring: EPA standards, real time public notification, and special studies
