Speaker: Melissa White, Founder and CEO - Balanced Fitness and Health

Started in Hiawatha in 2015 with the goal of helping people live happier, healthier, and pain-free lives.  They offer services from individual rehabilitation and wellness services to corporate injury prevention programs for businesses.  Treatment is of a holistic nature.

Corporate services include:  Functional job analysis, pre-employment services, ergonomics and onsite injury prevention, triage 1st aid consultation, and rehab and work conditioning.

Facts and Wellness Tips:

  • Strains and sprains represent about 37% of healthcare budget claims
  • Ergonomics - tilting your head at 60 degrees to read your mobile device is like putting 60 lbs of pressure on your neck.  Make sure you sit up straight in your office chair, support your lower back, and adjust height so your feet are firmly planted on the floor.
  • Get up and move every hour at a minimum.
  • Implement stretching programs at your company.  Can lead to a 67% decrease in musculoskeletal symptoms.
  • Hang bands up in break room with exercise printouts.

Next week’s speaker: Tim Stiles - United Way of East Central Iowa

THE FOUR WAY TEST

Is it the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
