Announcements:
  • Boys & Girls Club AIM - May 8 at 4:00PM-4:45PM. You should have received an email to sign up to volunteer at the B&G Club. AIM is a chance for you to help an elementary child during BGCCR's Power Hour program. Power Hour is BGCCR's primary education program. Our most recent AIM activity was helping reading with the kids. Other activities have included bingo math, word searches, reading, educational worksheets, etc. We are looking for 6-8 volunteers to come to the Boys & Girls Club's South Unit at First Congregational Church the second Wednesday of each month.  To sign up go here.
  • Save the date of June 6th for the MNR golf outing.
  • Please remember to sign and send in your collection policy agreement to Dave Carlson. 
  • We are having a Membership Drive! Increase your chances to earn a VISA giftcard and bring guests to Rotary! A great event to invite guests would be at out May 16th Outing to Cedar Ridge. That day we will be meeting at 4PM at Cedar Ridge and NOT at Butcher Block at 11:30. 
  • Our annual fundraising event Lager ‘Lympics is right around the corner on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at NewBo City Market from 11:30 am -3:30pm. We need all hands on deck to sign up to help day of!! Please use SignUp Genius to sign up and let us know your T-shirt size!! As always please keep trying to secure sponsorships as well!   • Check out 100+ Who Care - Cedar Rapids on FB. There last event was May 2nd and it's a group that donates $100 each and hears pitches from local non profits and they vote that night. Check out their FB page for more info on the next event! 
  • Make a Difference: Tom Patterson volunteered to take food to the Ronald McDonald House.

Speaker:  Kelli Schnurr, Children's Cancer Connection

 
Kelli is the Development Director at CCC. She helps to build impactful relationships with families, donors, and volunteers with her focus on Eastern Iowa development. As a past oncology camper, she is dedicated to her role where she works closely with “Fundraising by Friends” events and helps plan their main internal fundraising events, “Camping the Night Away”. 
 
Children's Cancerl Connection provides programming and support for families effected by childhood cancer. Did you know that the average age of childhood cancer is only 6 years old? An sadly every 3 minutes a child is diagnosed with cancer. CCC provides support through oncology camps, Family Camps, sibling camps, lock-ins, day camps, journey books and Beads4Bravery as the child goes through their cancer treatments. 
 
You can get involved by volunteering at the various camps and outings and donating or sponsoring an event. You can give online at childrenscancerconnection.org
