Rotary Exchange Student: Bas Jordaan spoke to the club about his year in Cedar Rapids. His first impression of Iowa was corn. His host families offered great experiences for him that included several trips throughout the US. He has formed some lifelong friendships with other rotary exchange students, his soccer teammates and his friends from high school. He wanted to thank Rotary for this lifechanging experience.
Speaker: Our speaker was William Jacobson PhD P.D.G, who wrote the book about the journey of the Cedar Rapids Rotary. Cedar Rapids rotary was started in 1914 so they are celebrating 105 years. Bill has been a member of the Downtown Rotary since 1975.
Rotary was the world's first service club formed in 1905 by Paul Harris in Chicago. Life expands by service to others with a focus on 5 areas including club service, vocational, community, international and generational. Women went all the way to the Supreme Court in 1986 to be able to join rotary.
Some local projects that the rotaries have done in the area: Centennial Project at Cedar Lake, Playgrounds at some low income schools, Newbo City Market Rotary Hall, and Prospect Meadows Baseball Park.
Bill has the book available for purchase for $20.
Is it the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
