Speaker #1: Bas

Bas shared a powerpoint with great pictures and facts from his homeland, The Netherlands.  Bas is from an area in the Rotterdam region, where the population is about 73,000.  The overall population of Amsterdam is 17,084,719, of which approximately 20% is foreign.

Other key points:

  • Eagle is the national mascot
  • Shared a cool picture of the windmill on his farm
  • Bikes are everywhere (more bikes than people)
    • 21,474 miles of bike lanes
  • Farmers wear wooden shoes in winter so feet don't get wet
  • Tulips are a stereotype
  • Dutch are the tallest people in the world with an average height of 5'11"
  • Bas doesn't like licorice but everyone else does and 32M kilos is consumed
  • Amsterdam is built on large poles
Speaker #2:  Scott Johnson
November is Rotary Foundation month.  Our club has 14 Paul Harris Fellows and 6 Paul Harris Fellows Plus.  However we are low in the number of members giving to Foundation this year.  Our goal is 100% participation whether you give $1 or $1,000.

Our club seeks Foundation gifts to support our international programs.  Money given today and participation impacts the money we receive back in the form of these grants.

Rotary Foundation supports the following causes:
  1. Promote Peace
  2. Fighting Disease
  3. Providing Clean Water
  4. Saving Mothers and Children
  5. Supporting Education
  6. Growing Local Economies
You can complete a paper pledge and return to Scott or give online at Rotary/org/give or clicking the link on the Metro North website.

Make a difference and Donate to Foundation today!

THE FOUR WAY TEST

Is it the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
